Smithtown Senior Citizens Department Presents a Hate Crime Prevention Seminar on September 16th

Smithtown, NY:  The Town of Smithtown Senior Citizens Department will conduct a presentation on Hate Crime Prevention on Monday, September 16th, at 10AM in the Senior Citizens Center Library. This program is open to Smithtown senior citizens age 60 and older. The presentation will be conducted by representatives from The Crime Victims Center.

This program defines the conduct that constitutes a Hate Crime, as well as how it can be reported. Attendees will learn about prejudice, discrimination, stereotyping, the seriousness of Hate Crimes and how they affect victims and communities. Overviews of the criminal justice and judicial processes will be presented, along with a detailed description of the rights of victims, the services to which they are entitled under the law, and how to access these resources.

About The Crime Victims Center:

The Crime Victims Center is committed to informing victims of their rights, involving them in the decision making process, securing crime victim compensation to which they are entitled, and treating every victim with respect and dignity. The organization provides victim services training to law enforcement and works collaboratively with them to ensure an accurate and up-to-date sex offender registry.  The agency staff the Local and National Megan’s Law Help lines.
