Events: Youth Art Showcase At Mills Pond Gallery Sept 21 - Oct 12

Youth Art Showcase at Mills Pond Gallery September 21 – October 12

Smithtown Township Arts Council is pleased to announce Youth Art Showcase an exhibition featuring over 100 works created by students from twenty-five Long Island communities who participated in our Summer Art Classes program at Mills Pond Gallery. The exhibition, which will be on view September 21 – October 12 at Mills Pond Gallery in St. James, will also feature works by our summer art instructors. The public is invited to an opening reception Saturday, September 21 at 2 pm to meet the student artists and view their wonderful work. Regular Gallery hours are Wed. - Fri., 10 am-4pm; Sat. and Sun., 12-4pm. Visit or call 631-862-6575 for directions or information. Admission to the gallery is always free. Please use our rear parking lot off Mills Pond Road, directly across from the two white stone pillars at Flowerfield, 199 Mills Pond Rd.

Mills Pond Gallery knows that a child’s interaction with art sparks inspiration, creativity and imagination. Creative arts experiences help children become more flexible and inventive thinkers, providing the foundation for later success. When kids are encouraged to express themselves and take risks in creating art, they develop a sense of innovation that will be important in their adult lives.

We direct our art classes towards a creative journey rather than the result. We know that in the arts, the method by which children arrive at the destination is more significant than the destination itself. Our teachers offer guidance and encouragement as children explore colors, materials, subjects and more!

The children in this exhibition (ages 5 through 14)  spent a week creating art this summer…they didn’t even know that their fine motor skills improved….that their ability to analyze and problem-solve increased…that they became a bit more self-confident…and that they learned a bit about inventing new ways of thinking!

STAC, a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organization. Public funding is provided by Town of Smithtown.
