Park View Elementary Students Plant A Kindness Rock Garden

The Kindness Rocks Project, founded by Megan Murphy, is based on the premise that “one message at the right moment can change someone’s day, their outlook, and, indeed, their whole life.”  May 20-23 was Kindness Week at Park View Elementary School in Kings Park.  Girl Scout Brownie Troop 2974 assisted the project by clearing out the garden around the Park View sign in the front of the school.  They donated almost 400 rocks for the project! The Park View PFA donated paint and brushes. Miss Scherer and Ms. Brennan worked with each class in the building.  They team-taught a lesson on kindness, constructed a kindness pledge to be displayed in each classroom, and afforded each student the opportunity to paint a kindness rock. Each class then “planted” their kindness rocks in the new kindness rock garden! The rocks will remain in the garden as a constant reminder to be kind and spread kindness each day!  According to Superintendent Eagen, “We are fortunate to have amazing principals and educators in Kings Park that work tirelessly to spread kindness each and every day.  Principal Storch at Park View accepted the Kindness Challenge earlier this spring from his wife, who is also an elementary principal in Northport.  It is a close call to say who has spread more kindness.  I might be biased, but I’ll give the edge to Mr. Storch!”
