Kings Park School District's 2nd Annual School Bus Safety Poster Contest

Kings Park Holds Successful 2nd Annual School Bus Safety Poster Contest

On Tuesday, November 13, the Kings Park Board of Education and Transportation Department presented awards to several Kings Park students for their submissions in the Second Annual Bus Safety Poster Contest.

Several members of the Transportation Department attended the presentation, as well as the families of the student honorees.  The Transportation Department began this renewed focus and safety contest last fall after a 6th grade student was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop and yield to a stopped Kings Park school bus.

According to local CSEA President and school bus driver Richard Lasnier, “The Second Annual Bus Safety Poster Contest was a huge success.  The children showed a great understanding and overall enthusiasm and knowledge of bus safety.  We are looking forward to this contest as an annual event sponsored by the dues of the members of the CSEA.”  This year’s contest was championed by bus drivers Monica Broderick, Brenda Hetterich, and Ann Scocca.   Our local CSEA bus drivers presented each of the student winners with a certificate, laminated copy of their poster, and a gift card.  According to Superintendent Eagen, “We are fortunate to have outstanding school bus drivers who are dedicated to safety.  They also take great pride in the condition and appearance of their buses.  During this season of thanks, I am especially thankful for their service to the children and families in Kings Park.”
