(Left to right): James Ryan, Eagle Mom Marilyn Ryan, Eagle Scout #100 of Troop 125 (Commack) Matt Ryan, Eagle Dad Christopher Ryan, Celia Ryan and Sean RyanMatthew Ryan became Commack Boy Scout Troop 125’s 100th Eagle Scout on March 1,  2017.  A special Eagle Court of Honor ceremony was held on June 2nd at the troop’s meeting place, the Commack United Methodist Church (Commack).

For his Eagle Scout Community service project, Mr. Ryan built 10 two-sided teaching easels for the Burr Intermediate School. His project took over two-hundred and twenty seven hours of leadership time for completion of the easels.  He organized the project (which included the design, the pricing and purchasing of materials as well as setting up days and times for the project build), leading over forty scouts, friends and family members in the entire project.  The project took just over one year and also included a car wash fundraiser.  During his tenure in Boy Scout Troop 125, he served the scouts of Troop 125 as a Patrol Leader,  an Assistant Patrol Leader, a Den Chief and as the  Quartermaster.  He had earned his Arrow of Light Award as a Webelos Scout in Cub Scout Pack 329 (Commack)  In order to earn his 22 Merit Badges (12 of which are required), Matt had participated in week-long summer camps over the seven years he was an active member of the troop  and most recently participated at a station with scorekeeping when Troop 125 was the host troop  running  a successful  February 2017 annual Matinecock District’s Polar Bear Camporee and Skills event weekend.

A June 2017 graduate of Commack High School, he will be studying Manufacturing Technology at Suffolk Community College this September.

Eagle Scout Matt Ryan continues his family tradition, as the third Eagle Scout, following brothers Sean and James in earning the highest rank in Boy Scouting.   The son of Marilyn and Christopher Ryan of Smithtown, he also has a younger sister, Celia.
