Smithtown Bulls 3rd Grade lacrosse (LAX) team went bald this morning to support the St. Baldricks Foundation. The team raised $16,470 to be donated to the St. Baldricks Foundation which raises money for reasearch into childhood cancers.
According to the St. Baldricks website, “Worldwide, 300,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. And in the U.S., more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease —more than AIDS, asthma, cystic firbrosis, congenital anomalies and diabetes combined.”
This is the second year the team participated in the St. Baldricks head shaving event at the Park Lounge in Kings Park. According to Park Lounge owner Jim Pavese the Smithtown LAX team is the largest donor. Pavese awarded team captain Cameron James a medallion commemorating the very successful fundraiser.
Players on the LAX team come from elementary schools in the Smithtown Central SD. The successful fundraiser and head shaving event was truly a team effort. Kudos to Coach Rob Trites and the assistant coaches Brad Hughes , Marc Jurman, Jerry Baratta and Justin Moses.
Head shaving was performed by employees of the Kings Park Barbershop.
