Smithtown Animal Shelter Director Arrested For Criminal Trespass

Smithtown Animal Shelter Director Sue Hansen was arrested Friday and charged with criminal trespass in the third degree. Ms. Hanson was suspended by the Town Board on February 7, 2017. The suspension, with pay, required Ms. Hanson to stay away from the animal shelter located at 410 E. Main St., Smithtown,  until the end of the suspension.

On February 18 Hansen violated the suspension by entering the facility to attend a volunteer orientation. Smithtown public safety officers directed Hanson to leave.

Earlier today Hansen was given a desk appearance ticket. A date for arraignment has not been set. According to Suffolk County District Attorney spokesperson Robert Clifford, criminal trespass in the third degree is a class B misdemeanor punishable upon conviction of a maximum three month jail sentence and/or a fine of up to $500. It is possible that court may order a probation term of 1 year in lieu of jail time.

the administration.
