SCPD - SAFE -T Arrest Man Observed Driving Over 100 MPH
Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 2:27PM Suffolk County Police today arrested a South Setauket man for driving while intoxicated after he was observed driving in excess of 100 miles per hour.
SAFE-T (Selective Alcohol Fatality Enforcement Team) Section Officer Robert Mudzinski observed a 2011 Hyundai traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on County Road 97, just north of Stony Brook University Medical Center, at approximately 1:55 a.m. Officer Mudzinski followed the Hyundai, which at times reached speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour.
The driver of the Hyundai then headed westbound on Route 347, made a u-turn, and then made a right turn onto southbound County Road 97. When the Hyundai stopped for a red light at the intersection with Pond Path, Officer Mudzinski was able to catch up to the car and turned on his lights to pull over the vehicle.
Joseph Perez, 26, South Setauket , was charged with Driving While Intoxicated with a Previous Conviction in 10 Years. Perez, whose vehicle was seized, was also issued four moving violations, including two summonses for driving in excess of 120 miles per hour. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip this afternoon.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty
